In addition to the 3 position 3rd channel mentioned, the 3R has a more complete mixing capability for the 3rd channel compared to the 3S. For example if I'm not mistaken the 3S won't do mechanical brakes for a 1/8 E, the 3R will, probably other similar situations.

And the 3R can be converted to left hand, with everything needed included.
