As for the softwares, I did try the 107 and 110 back to back, and do prefer the 107... However, you do need to tweak the settings to get it too run cooler, whereas the 110 you can seemingly keep them at max. Personally so far turned faster laps with the 107.
Not sure who else has noticed, but the zip file I downloaded off the SP site has a pdf doc with recomended setings for 17.5 from none other than Viktor Wilck (and speaking to some SP drivers this weekend, he has actually run it... So they aren't suggestions). Worth giving them a punt
HiH

I have had a similar experience... the following is the best setup that I could come up with 107... I agree 110 you can max everything out without temp concerns but 107 is faster for me in the end
ESC: SP GT 2.0 (PRO)
Firmware: 107
FDR: 104/46*1.9 = 4.29
Battery: Thunder Power 7.4v 40C
Motor: SP V3 17.5R
Track: 100 Foot Straight away total 100/50 foot
SP ESC Timing: 22 degrees
DRRS: 9
Drag Brake: 10%
Motor Timing: 10 degrees
Capacitor: SP Super Cap
I have tried running at 26 esc timining but prefer the performance and temp with 22, the physical motor timing is max. Coming off between 145-155F
