I haven't seen the pics but i'm guessing he is using the 1/4AAA cells like the ones for $2.00 a pop that Hank sells on hobbytalk.
I think that he uses 6 cells so he can get 7.2v to his electronics. I recently stepped up to 6 cells and that little KO-947 really flies now.
They are 150Mah Nimh cells.
I had been using a 6.0v pack for over a year now and it really help out in keeping the voltage up for my servo so the car doesn't get sluggish.
