I'm new to 12 scale... really enjoy it.
The single downside at this early stage is foam tires. Yesterday - I bought a brand new set of JACO 'yellow rear' tires - $15 with tax.
Carefully checked the edge of the tires - everything glued perfectly, no flaws, nothing needed to be re-glued. I sauced the tires and ran a couple laps (no more then 3 or 4 minutes) and brought it in to get ready for the main. Carefully checked the tires - everything looked great. No tire/wheel separation, no chunking... they looked ready to go.
Ran the 8 minute main and the left tire is terribly chunked. The outside edge of the left tire is destroyed. The right tire is perfect.
Before the yellows - I bought Gray rears and Purple fronts. I had similiar results with the Grays however both left and right chunked similiarly to the yellows.
The purple fronts have held up reasonably well. They have 3 days of running on them and now need to be replaced.
I want to run foam tires that will not chunk like the photos. I'd like to have to replace the tires because they wear out or need to be trued. I'm not prepared to spend $200 - $300 for a tire truer... just not in the cards. So I need very durable foam tires.
Please let me know what tires are recognized as the most durable foam tires out there (no chunking). I am prepared to sacrifice grip to have durable tires. Ultimately I don't want to spend $15 for a set of foam tires each day I run.
The touring guys run rubber tires... are there rubber 12 scale tires available?
