I may have got lucky i guess it depends on how big the crack was how much you cut and the engine. I have ran the motor and i cant tell anything ever happened i even think i have more bottom end too. Not sure who but i seen someones modding work and they too shave the piston up some. I would say mine is 3-4mm from the conrod pin.
