So I can determine the volume of the pipe without the dent. Then determine what volume of water to put into the pipe to get to just over that volume. This will require that the entire pipe not be totally filled. If I have done my calculations correctly I will have left out just enough water so that when the water is frozen it expands to take up the space in the pipe to pop out the dent but not split the pipe.
