The problem with the cells fitting isn't the length, but the width of the GP cells (rumor is they are shrinking to be standard size). It's best to use flat battery bars to keep them as narrow as possible and if it's still tight ditch that clear chassis protector and use some thinner electrical tape. They should fit just about right.
i have some of the old GP's and the a couple of the new green and orange shrink wraps, and the newer ones do really tend to fit better than the ond GP's.
but...i did notice that the newer ones tend to have higher peak voltages, even when brand new...
