Thats the way I was doing it - used a 4 cell holder I made an adapter to the charger for and was charging them at 0.5 to 1amp depending on how quickly I needed them. I found an 8 cell holder on Tower and used that for the 8 AAs in my Tx before I soldered them into a pac. NiMH setting with peak set at 5mv/cell. Did an OK job.

I got into digital cams and was really using AAs. I have three 4 cell AA or AAA only chargers that were from $25 to $100. The $100 charger is a Maha cell analyzer and has charge, discharge, cycle, refresh & analyze and breakin functions. It stays busy.

For AAAs would advise no more than 0.5amp.
