posted some links in the first post in the solder section for good solder. A 1lb roll is about $20 and will last a long long time. After you buy a few half ounce or ounce tubes for $2-$6 you could have bought a pound.

And while I understand the liking of the smell... I would avoid breathing in the smoke from solder, besides the lead being toxic, the flux fumes are not a healthy breath of life either.

And it seems deans solder had no-clean type flux in it... and you know my stance there (but the no cleans do smell the best... but are also more toxic... strange that)

I wish I could get my favorite soldering station, it is made by pace, one of the best brands out there, but you will pay that best out there price. Just a basic analog system will be close to $200. But my favorite system they make and what I loved using was the PRC 2000 system, it only cost, oh... $5000 my favorite feature was the built in rotary tool (dremel tool) that had an electrical braking system that would stop the tool in less than a 1/4 revolution if it touched any conductive material that its sensor wire was attached to. It was designed to do that so you cloud repair a circuit board close to the traces and not damage them.

But the checkpoint and hakko stations at less than $100 are worth the cost. with easy to get replacable tips, and heating elements. (you don't need to order a new whole iron handle if it goes bad) I will add these benefits to the first post.
