Just a FYI, the stock Tamiya ESC is just fine with the Silver Can motor. We run a TT-01 race series at our club and I have your exact same car. I still only run a 6-cell stick pack Nicd battery with a capacity of 2500MaH.
Take the motor out and make sure everything is turning alright first without any binding. Are you using the stock Tamiya connectors? Or did you make your own battery connections. Check any solder connection that you have done. Re-Cal your ESC.
Are you using a Wall Charger or a better peak charger?
I doubt the motor is bad already if you just built it in August. I have run a motor for 6 months one time, just blow it out and lube the bushings all the time.
Spin one of the front and rear tires and make sure the other tire spins the other way.
Did the car ever work properly?
