No. The whole premise of a gear is that they are nearly 99+% effecient. Each gear tooth is rounded. It is called an "Involute curve" they are not triangular and simple drawings represent. The point on the gears that touch one another is called the Pitch Diameter. At the point on the tooths face, it is rounded. When the gear teeth come together, and rotate, they act like two cylinders rolling against one another. There is very little friction between the gear teeth(they are NOT sliding against each other)

So as far as effeciency goes, the difference between 64 and 48 is negligable.
