Beyond the lower weight, is the fact that 7.4 volts would make these cars ballistically fast, even with a higher wind motor. That's one big reason that 1/12 scale went from 6 cells to 4 cells. Lap times for 1/12 scale 17.5 with a 1S LiPo are as fast or faster than 2S LiPo 17.5 touring cars at the Gate (same track size as the Carpet Nats). 7.4 volts would make them uncontrollable for many drivers.
