Nice write-up Ed! I found the same thing a couple of months ago when I managed to get hold of 4 mini scales. I had to drop 100 grams in weight after moving to a different state with different rules. I found the car to be slightly unbalanced after adding weight in front and behind the battery to reach 1425g. So if you are running less than that, then offsetting the battery is the way to go.
In time, we could be using saddle packs again, just like we did a decade ago. Now where is my Pro2...
