When you advance the timing on the motor, you increasing the RPMs. But in turn, you'er loosing torque. An equal and opposite reaction happens just the same, when you retarde the timing. It's a lot like gearing. So, when you jump it a larger pinion, you'er getting more top-end speed, but loosing torque. Timing is just another way to get extra speed, without playing with the gear ratios. Timing is best used when there is limited space for a larger pinion. Or just to sqweeze a little extra speed out of the motor.
Remember, when you advance the timing, the motor will generate more heat from the increased RPMs. So, gear accordingly.

But, for someone who's in Trans-Am, none of this should matter.

and I cant figure out why when I turn my Tx on first! then my Esc the tires will want to turn for about 3 seconds. is it having a problem finding nutural? dosnt happen all the time. I use DSM and its a 21.5 Novak motor.
It could be that you forgot to program The ESC, or when you put in a new receiver, to re-program the ESC. That is, if you'er running a Novak GTB.
