If you do end up with a 2S situation - setup a high-C 2S2P or 2S3P configuration to allow for higher amp draw. I have a Mamba/Neu 2650 and have run 2S1P to test it out a while back. It works - but you'd have to add 2-3 teeth to the pinion size over a 3S1P to be a viable speed.
Motors like the 2200 have a certain wattage rating - so to get to that wattage on a lower voltage battery - they need to pull amps - that's why doing something like a 2S2P setup with two 30C batteries may work ok.
So,, if you did the above and run in parallel, it seems to me it would be just as easy to run them in series. Running an 1/8 vehicle on 2s just dosen't make any sense. It's harder on the batteries and ESC.
