How old are your front engine bearings? I don't think that seal likes being removed and a leak there could Kaboom a jx21. Might just want to put new a one in.
I put Lucas red grease with antisieze in my bearings that have alot of load. Drivetrain bearings, not engine bearings. On bearings with an easier job (like steering or my Slash's drive train) I use a self cleaning sticky oil lube that I made for rifles and motorcycle chains.
