Probably you installed the fuel tank backwards... when you open the tank lid, the inner of the lid should face forward the car.
Pipe selection will be determined by your local track or which kind of tracks you frequent.... But an all around pipe is the Nova 51604 or the RD Logics Turbo. Probably Motorman can shed some more light about this, many time ago gave a list of pipes that is constantly appear by other threads.
