as long as the clutch is still engaged it uses the engines de-accelerating rpm's to slow the car with out using the brakes , pretty much like down shifting a manual transmission in a car.
Wouldn't that strain the engine conrod a little since now off throttle the conrod also experiences forces of the "engine braking"?
