Rust has nothing to do with the motor. Has to do with either where the motor is stored, is it damp or humid, is after run oil used and also the fuel that is being used can cause rust after running and letting the motor sit. I used to have that rust problem with some fuels till I switched to Cold Fusion. I am not one to bash so I will not mention the other fuels. Now the crack I do not know. It may be just a casting mark and not a crack at all. These cases are cast aluminum as far as I know so you do see some stuff like that.
And also had oil on the side of the case but there is a crack right by the bearing you can feel it with ur finger i really like the motor i use byron's 30 percent with 11 percent oil so it should have enough lubrication in the motor i will post some pictures of the crack
