Those are NiMH Stick Packs they strapped into that conversion on the link. They won't catch on fire if they are abused like a charged-up LiPo. I said abused - as in if you roll the car at 50mph into a curb, the battery gets lose and punctures. Tray won't ensure against that either but with good velcro and a tray, far less chance of that. The Zippy you mentioned in the other thread is fine - but is a soft-case. So, you should try to protect it a bit.
