Yea they do run a little warm, however it sound like he may have an air leak, which will cause higher temps my last TT motor didn't run strong unless it was 250-270, but with the 300 and up temps, prolly an air leak.

Check you fuel lines and tank, then check you carb, may need to put some high temp silicone where the carb meets the block...
