Well if you think about it. When you plug the exhaust you are stopping the exhaust flow. But its gotta go some where. So where does it go? Into the crankcase. I've just got in the habit of hitting the flywheel. Its easier anyway. I stop the engine then bottom the piston.

Like Integra said its not gonna cause the seal to pop out but it will lead to an early failure.
