Are you running indoor or outdoor? Parking lot or permanent track? 48 pitch or 64 pitch?

I ask because these kinds of factors could contribute to your problems. If you're running 64 pitch, on an outdoor, temporary parking lot track, with a 4.5 brushless, chances are that you're gonna have some problems. Especially if you don't perfectly set your gear mesh...An alternative to the molded XRay spur gears are the offset RW spur gears. They are machine cut (as opposed to molded), so they run a little truer. And, IMO, the plastic is stronger.

Another thing to check is your bulkhead, where the motor mounts. If your screws have gotten loose, or if one screw is missing, that could be causing a little flex under power, thus always altering your gear mesh. I would also suggest using good quality motor mounting screws, and be sure they are TIGHT.
