2 things one when you say acetone do you mean some thing like paint thinner or nail pollish remover second thing i have heard that will weaken your rims
your rims will be fine thats how ive done it for years,
i have a set of rims that have had prolly 20 sets of tires on them and they are still good condition a few nicks but no cracks or chips
