Well it can be done but it requires a lot of work and some expense. What I did was to convert the knuckles and the rear uprights to Losi. This means you have to switch to english size bearings and older TC3/TC4 axles (or the JXRs LCDs) but the Losi knuckles are moulded to a tighter tolerance and that reduces some of the slop. The biggest problem is that the ackerman geometry is different and requires a special extension to be made to get you back to the Associated ackerman geometry. Losi did/does make a knuckle (XXXS ?) that has a second hole moulded in which makes it closer to the TC5 knuckle and I've seen one guy using it sucessfully. The rear Losi upright rquires two 1 mm spacers to make it fit in the arm and it is taller by about 2.5 mm but works well.
The ball cups are a different story .......
