I think it is a problem to do with what company will sign with tamiya for the rights to do the bodies. At the moment the WRC is basically down to two manufacturers and a number of privateers, so what are you going to do? Easier to deal with a japanese company you already had contracts running with, isn't it? Besides WRC is on its deathbed so who cares for rally cars anymore?
