Anywhoos, Michael, you saw my old 960'08, and i think it was fairly evident that "Parasitic drag" did not exist whatsoever.
Yes of course springs to keep the brake pads separated will keep them from dragging, but you have to remember that the brake disc isn't fixed as it floats on the pins as well as the 2 speed shaft, so theoretically this "drag" still exists. So the previous design of having the plastic ring around the bulkhead/brake lever to keep the braking system from engaging by keeping it in the open position would still maintain its "free-ness." Plus before the old design allowed for all 3 moving parts to float freely which would probably create the same amount of "drag" as the new system does.
So, with that information, I'm pretty sure the braking system was designed for CG.
The reason why the new car is so free, is because of the precision in the new aluminum parts used in the drivetrain assembly.
