Temp guns

For an experienced racer a temp gun is not needed. I can usually tell within 10 degree's how hot my engine is running just by how it feels.
A new racer has no idea, could be 150 deg. could be 300 deg. what does he have it to compare to? I would recommend to a new racer to use a temp gun and use it often, it wont hurt anything.

Most races we go to you have 2-3 minute warmup for a 30-45 minute main. It is quite a guessing game to figure out just the right tune to get that extra fuel mileage etc. Using a temp gun in qualifying to see what it temps after warmup vs. after the heat race gives a good baseline of what it might do in the main.
