Roelof, no offence, but I have done this plenty of times. In the States I had found a galvanic shop that was able to hard chrome only the crank pin and this worked perfect.
It is absolutely clear that the pin has to be lapped after coating.

The problem is, that most coatings won't work.

I would like to get back to my original question, please!
