I like the fact the I.F.S. is sooo different in design.....can someone tell me what a guy could expect from this chassis vs. a touring car with more traditional front suspension relating to handling....maintenance....set-up?? This car would be running 17.5 stock.

My experience with the many Tamiya kits I've built is to try the kit default setup first. They seem to put a lot of thought and testing into that. I just raced my IFS-R for the first time Sunday in two classes: 17.5 Sedan and RCGT (RCGT is 17.5 on HPI X-pattern tires with a realistic body). High-bite outdoor asphalt. I never touched the setup from the default -- it was absolutely dialed and I was smoother, faster, and more competitive than ever before.
Build it very carefully to the kit box setup and go from there.
