From what I have gathered, Deans and the bullet connectors both have less resistance than the solder joint that attaches them to the wire, so it's really personal preference....I get cleaner installs with bullets. Correct me if I'm wrong...

Correct.
No loss connecters all have a resistance that is less of an enquivilent length of 12 gauge wire, therefore, if the connecter is heating up, that means you have soldered the lead on poorly or the wire is too small of a gauge for the amount of current applied.
