Normally the charging plug only has 2 wires. The plug used for the receiver power has three wires just like your servos.

I haven,t use a fail safe in years I use 2.4ghz which needs no fail safe. But I believe the fail safe device is normally inserted in the throttle channel of your receiver and then the throttle servo is plugged into the fail safe.
