I remember that was one of the weakest parts of the chassis... back in the day when I had my XX-4 I used to take some long shock shafts and tap the end for a 4-40 lock-nut.. put the treaded end towards the end and put nuts on them to hold on the alum brace. Made the rear-end bullet proof even without the alum rear blocks.
