Both are great cars but I think that the 200mm car will be easier for a new comer to the hobby to master simply because they are not as quick as the 1/8 car. With the 1/8 car things happen so quickly that there is not time to think about what you need to do next. Don't get me wrong - the 200mm car is very fast also but it does not require the precise throttle control of a 1/8 car.
I say start with 200mm which is slightly less money too.

Listen to this guy, he knows from what he speaks. Lee's online store, Winners Circle, is also a very good source for parts and Lee is always willing to share his ideas with you. I agree with the 1/10th to start then move to 1/8th later. I did it that way and benefited from Lee's help in the past.
