When you have 3mm/6mm/9mm off-set wheels on your car, the overall width (from the center to the center of tires) will be wider. Basically the car should be stable with the wider width while the narrow width wants to make more roll. Therefore the narrower(less off-set) generates more traction and the wider(more off-set) makes the car stable.
