That's what originally got me thinking about making one, but I haven't broken a shock mount yet, and don't have any spare/scrap graphite. I figured this one was basically what I need, so it's just as easy for me to buy it (as long as the price was reasonable). I'll have to keep looking for scrap graphite. 
Tommy, fiberglass will do as well or even a piece of aluminum.
It's not really a high tech part and doesn't have to be made of space age materials
