I've been told by more than one reliable source that the club President has been telling people that we are not able to afford new carpet because "sedan racers spent all the money." In case anyone here has heard the same thing, regardless of the source, you should know that it is a flat-out lie.
The on-road track in Verona this year made money, albeit a small amount, but we certainly did not lose money. If anybody does not believe me, I have the receipts and paperwork to prove it.
A couple of years ago the club had thousands of dollars in the bank. Now we are supposedly broke and can't even afford long-promised carpet. How did it happen? Good question. Keeping the building over the summer was a huge mistake, one that cost the club about a ton of money, and I admit I was one of the people who pushed for it and voted for it. We were hoping to hold periodic races or events there, but it never happened. Roles and responsibilities were never defined, and to put it simply, the events never materialized.
Now, there will be little or no sedan racing at MARCCA this year. No one is going to come and race on the carpet that's there now. It's a sad fact. We gave it everything we had last year but few showed up as it was. Truck racing and membership fees will have to pay the bills, which is doable, but it means there will be little-to-no growth and we'll be on shaky ground.
If I hear anything else reliable, I will let you know. You guys, the paying members, deserve better than this.
