I don't use ANY of the foam inserts in my shocks, just the rubber bladder and the shock caps. As far as building tips, i really can't think of any right now. I build mine like a year and a half ago. Just the usual, make sure all of your parts fit tightly but still move freely. I used a reamer on my arms and then polished the suspension pins. Other then that i really can't think of any others.
