The F103s ran OK with rubber tires. They were much better on the soft rubber capped tires and even better still on foams. Unless rubber tires get some serious research I don't think they will ever be a viable option for pan cars. I think they could possibly work but it would take a different formulation then what is currently used for TCs.
Of course it would take some R&D, but I'm sure it's totally viable. It's just a matter of finding the right compound, sidewall stiffness, tire profile, etc. Probably not nearly as difficult to figure out as how to find the best way to run lipo in 1/12, for example.
