I have the losi regulator in the receiver box with a spektrum receiver. It shut off several times due to overheating (once I removed the receiver box cover and let it cool it would work perfectly). Instead of putting the regulator outside, I put some foam between the regulator and the receiver which seemed to dissipate some of the heat and actually provide added cushion for the receiver. Not sure this is foolproof but didn't like having the regulator outside regardless of how it's attached as I've seen two be ripped off during bad crashes.
