Short wheelbase is fine. However, the super short wheelbase(coupler mounts forward, which hasn't been proven on carpet yet.) But Go For It! There are so many variables concerning your wheelbase question?
2.4mm chassis would be fine for carpet.
2.4mm top deck for low grip - 2.9mm top deck for high grip.
