I have to disagree with you there , stopping the engine by the flywheel is not the best , i prefer to block the exhaust over the flywheel .. Ive never had plug problems as a result of plugging the exhaust..

Burning up plugs can be

wrong head clearance
wrong fuel
incorrect tune ( lean )
rod or bearing wear
wrong plug type

can you tell us what the plugs look like when they die ? IE is the element pushed in ? Grey or while in colour ? etc
