there's three main ways to hook up a fan
1. to the receiver, 5 volt works best but 12 volt will work
2. to the battery, 5 volt will probably blow up, 12 volt will work
3. to the motor, 5 volt will probably blow up, 12 volt will work but the fan will only be on when the motor has power going to it.
