16 gauge is the right wire to use for 1/12th. Some like to use 14ga from the esc to the batteries, but I don't think that is necessary for anything but mod. Not all 16ga is created equal, some have really thick insulation or low strand count which makes the wire less flexible. I'm partial to my own OD Racing wire, Dean's wire is good also, and TQ drag wire (for slot cars) is ok too
