Not 100% "true" (but its only one side of what it can be used for). The fourth channel can be assigned to any dial or trim that the third channel can be asigned to, so it can also be used separately (as the third one can). You can also use it together with the programmable mixes etc. In some boat aplications it is nice to have a fourth channel.
