internal turbos (given the right stacking) will provide a better degree of protection for your board over the external ones.
the higher the stacking, the higher the capability of the PCB to power higher amp draw motors... so in a way, yes the higher stacking will give more tolerance...
... but the internal turbo's do not have their own circuit board which if overloaded will give out first before the turbo FETs...
in internal turbo's once the fets are overloaded, the FETs themselves will get fried...
