The battery is pretty much a paper weight now

When a lipo cell drops below 3.0v per cell there is a chemical reaction within the cell that renders it useless. If the battery read 5.98v after being run than it's a sure bet it was well below 6v in the car under load. When you get your charger you can try to charge it, but don't get your hopes up. You should be using an esc with a lipo cutoff, if you aren't you should limit your runs to 5 mins.
