also check the bearing play in the 2 speed housing, they get worn a bit over time and cause the housing to wobble.
Another cause for the stripping is if you have too much clearance on teh 2 speed clutch, if it does havea larger gap it will make the clutch change too viscious.
Adjust the shoe till it touches the 2 speed housing and then back it off a bit.
