Are you using some sort of DSM radio system? It might be that the receiver's fail-safe signal is set up for some amount of throttle...
The ESC only does what it is told... if the ESC itself is not receiving a valid signal it will display a red and green LED.

My GTB is setup for a brushed motor. When I switch on the speed controller the motor runs flat out for about 3-4 seconds then goes to neutral and is fine. Is this normal? What can I do to correct it?
