In theory too if heat starts to build up it won't dissipate as quickly if it's cooped up inside the radio.
IMO the reason Losi says not to take the battery below 11.1v is they know they are selling a very low grade cell and they (Horizon) is tired of replacing batteries. You should be able to pull it below 9v, but in my experience and from what I've learned from talking to people at Horizon is that the batteries have a high rate of failure if taken down below 75%.
My #1 battery issue is with the Losi LIPO's being either dead out of the pack or failure to recharge after a discharge. 1 in 4 fails (1-3 a week returned and sent back.) It's more with the smaller packs, but we see it with the larger ones as well.
That's just my slightly educated but biased opinion, I am not trying to hammer on Losi or Horizon but this is what I've observed.
I have never heard of any sort of problem with losi lipo's. do you have any specific examples? anybody else?
